A community group says the state needs to re-examine a law that protects police officers and then decide if it should be applied to state prison officers as well. The Select Commission on Race and Police-Community Relations says there are problems with the Law Enforcement Officers Bill of Rights. Lloyd Monroe, the group's executive director, was sharing his concerns with the House Judiciary Committee. Monroe says the state should set up a legislative task force to examine the bill of rights. That bill covers police officers who are being disciplined. Rhode Island's prison director is against adding prison officers to the bill. He says officers facing disciplinary action have a process that's fair. |
