Wis. 'Supermax' Inmate Dies

An inmate at Wisconsin's most secure prison has died -- the first death of a prisoner at the Boscobel facility.
Donnie Powe, 43, was transferred to the prison's medical observation unit last weekend after experiencing flulike symptoms.
State corrections spokesman Bill Clausius said Powe was found to be unresponsive about noon on March 16. Attempts were made to revive him and he was taken to Boscobel Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Powe was serving a 25-year sentence for second-degree reckless homicide in Milwaukee County, among other convictions.
Clausius said Powe had been sent to the Wisconsin Secure Program Facility after he assaulted an officer at the Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution.
The prison, formerly known as Supermax, opened in 1999 to house Wisconsin's toughest prisoners.
