| Meningitis May Be Cause Of Calif. Inmate Death |

Santa Clara County officials should know today or tomorrow if the death of an inmate at the Elmwood facility in Milpitas was caused by meningitis. Gilbert Rael died late Friday at Valley Medical Center. Authorities fear he died of the highly contagious illness which causes an inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord The concern comes from the fact that 14 officers and 129 other inmates could have been exposed to the illness. So far, there's no indication any of those officers and inmates have become ill. |
