Odesser Thompson, 57, a 27-year veteran of the Department of Corrections, was charged April 1 in 3rd District Court with selling drugs to inmates. He allegedly provided tobacco and marijuana to inmates at the Draper prison in recent months, according to Corrections spokesman Jack Ford. After an inmate informed officials about the contraband, an undercover buy was set up. Thompson was placed on administrative leave after he allegedly provided illegal substances to an informant during the sting on Jan. 31. Ford said most drugs enter the prison system through visits between inmates and their family and friends. The department had no previous complaints against Thompson. Thompson retired after the sting and made arrangements to turn himself in on Sunday. He faces a third-degree felony charge of distributing drugs. |
