Fla. Inmates Attack Officers in Prison Yard

Two inmates used horseshoes and baseball bats to attack officers in a crowded prison recreation yard, critically injuring one officer, officials said.
Tracy B. Wright, 31, and Darrell A. Jenkins, 35, started the disturbance because they wanted to be transferred from Washington Correctional Institution, said Sterling Ivey, spokesman for the Florida Department of Corrections.
Some of the other 500 inmates in the yard came to the aid of the five officers, Ivey said. A lockdown order imposed after the disturbance was lifted Thursday.
The most seriously injured officer remained in critical but stable condition Thursday at a hospital in Panama City. The others were treated and released, Ivey said. No inmates were seriously injured, he said.
Wright is serving 32 years for robbery, kidnapping and attempted second-degree murder. Jenkins is serving a life sentence for a 1994 first-degree murder.
