The father of a Colorado prison officer slain last year said he hopes a soon-to-be filed lawsuit will lead to widespread changes in how the state runs its prisons. Bob Autobee's son, 23-year-old Department of Corrections Sgt. Eric Autobee, was beaten to death in October by a convicted murderer working in the prison kitchen. In an intent-to-sue notice, dated April 9, Autobee alleges that the Limon Correctional Facility, where Eric Autobee worked, was critically understaffed and was not designed to house dangerous inmates. 'Nobody had my son's back because of these job cuts,' Bob Autobee said. Department of Corrections spokeswoman Alison Morgan said the department said during court proceedings against Edward Montour, Autobee's killer, that there was not a staffing shortage at Limon and the kitchen was fully staffed the day Autobee died. |
