Michael Skakel Transferred Again to Another Prison

Convicted killer Michael Skakel has been transferred again to another prison, Connecticut corrections officials said recently.
Skakel, a nephew of the late Robert F. Kennedy, was moved on April 14 from Cheshire Correctional Institution to MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield, according to a state Department of Corrections spokesperson.
Macdougall, which has the same high security level as Cheshire, will be Skakel's third prison since he began serving his 20-years-to-life sentence last June.
Department spokesperson Christina Polce did not explain why Skakel was transferred, but said it was not unusual for an inmate to be moved.
Last March, Skakel had reportedly complained in letters to his cousin, George Skakel III, that he was being treated badly at Cheshire. In the letters, obtained by the Greenwich Post at the time, Skakel claimed that he had been placed in solitary confinement twice and that he was denied his heart medication.
'I have always received harsher treatment than anyone from day one,' wrote Skakel, who said he spends 22 or more hours a day in his cell, according to the Associated Press.
Polce said that Skakel had never been in solitary confinement.
'To the best of my recollection,' she said. 'Six months ago our staff had in response to [these allegations] gone and spoken with inmate Skakel and he stated that he didn't have any concerns.'
Skakel was convicted last year for the 1975 murder of his Greenwhich, Conn., neighbor, Martha Moxley, when they were both 15. The case generated enormous interest.
Skakel appealed his conviction. It was expedited and is now pending before the Connecticut Supreme Court.
