Prison officials confiscated hundreds of items after a two-day shakedown at Halawa Prison. Authorities displayed the contraband May 22, and said what was most surprising was the large number of makeshift tattoo machines they confiscated -- 15 in all. A number of homemade weapons, including a knife hidden inside a walking cane, were also discovered. Authorities said they did not find a significant amount of street drugs. They believe any illegal drugs were probably flushed down the toilet. Three inmates were also arrested in the shakedown, but those charges were not immediately known. Officials said it was the first of many sweeps they plan to make at the prison. |
