The family of a teen who died after being held Monday in a juvenile detention facility is questioning if the boy was properly cared for. Omar Paisley, 17, of Opa Locka, died of appendicitis, according to his family. He was being held at the Miami-Dade Regional Juvenile Detention Facility. The teen reportedly died before he reached Jackson Memorial Hospital. The medical examiner confirmed that Paisley died of appendicitis, but referred all inquiries to the Miami-Dade Police Department because the case is an 'open investigation.' The detention facility houses juveniles who are awaiting trial. The boy's family members said they are questioning the medical care the teen received and the response time of the staff at the facility to the boy's complaints. The Florida Department of Juvenile Justice confirmed that a teen died overnight and it is investigating the death, but no details were released. |
