Prison Tools May Have Been Used in N.H. Escape

Three inmates who escaped last week may have used prison-issued tools to cut through two fences while being shielded from officers' view by wooden structures in the outdoor work yard, prison officials said recently.
The inmates evaded notice of three prison workers who were watching the yard when the men escaped June 4.
'We are reviewing all the tools we have in the entire prison system, to see which ones maybe we can do without,' Corrections Department spokesman Jeff Lyons said.
The men were captured June 5 in Massachusetts. They pleaded innocent to fugitive charges the next and said they wouldn't fight being sent back to New Hampshire. They will be moved to maximum-security cells under 23-hour-a-day lockdown when they return, Lyons said.
One man suspected of helping the three inmates killed himself June 5 before police were able to question him. Shayne Laslie was a former inmate whose prison term overlapped with the three men who escaped.
The escaped inmates were convicted murderer Kevin Gil, 31, Philip Dick, 23, convicted of attempted murder; and Christopher McNeil, 35, who had violated parole.
