Dozens of inmates have attempted to flood a North Texas jail where three prisoners had escaped over the weekend. Water to some 12-person cells at Parker County Jail was shut off Monday, said Sheriff Jay Brown. About three dozen inmates had been under lockdown since the escape Saturday. The sheriff said the disturbance began when inmates began throwing water and wet toilet paper on officers in an attempt to flood the jail. Investigators said more than 30 prisoners were affected. They are looking into whether some were upset about restrictions over Father's Day weekend, following the escape. Sheriff's deputies and state officers recaptured inmates James Douglas Holden, Wesley Eugene Hilton and Michael Ray West at a residence after authorities spotted a pickup believed to have been used after the breakout. Holden, 37, surrendered outside the house. Hilton, 41, and West, 35, were taken into custody later Saturday. Brown said the inmates escaped after working bars loose over an air conditioning duct and climbing through the duct to the roof. |
