The Mount Olive Correctional Complex has been fined more than $10,000 for hazardous waste violations. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency inspectors cited the Fayette County facility following a September 2002 inspection. The EPA alleges that the prison had been storing waste paint thinner from sign printing and license plate shops without the proper permit. The EPA also cited the prison for not having appropriate records of when hazardous materials were shipped off site. The $10,560 fine was levied against the state Division of Corrections, the EPA said. The state can contest both the violations and the fine. |
