Alaska Officials Investigate Money Missing from Prison

Alaska State Troopers are investigating money stolen from a Fairbanks Correctional Center account over the past year.
Troopers were contacted by the Department of Corrections several weeks ago after a discovery that money was missing, said Sgt. Scott Grasle.
''The funds are missing from the state system,'' Grasle said. ''We clearly have no inmates that have had money stolen from them.''
Grasle said troopers have contacted numerous employees and the investigation continues.
Grasle would not say how much is missing.
''We're still trying to establish that through bank records,'' he said.
Jerry Burnett, director of administrative services for the Department of Corrections, confirmed troopers are investigating but said nothing else would be released pending results of the investigation, which could take at least more two weeks.
