Wyo. Escapee Escapes from Montana Jail

A convicted bank robber who escaped from a Wyoming prison and another inmate charged with violent crimes escaped the Gallatin County (Mont.) jail Sunday and were still at large, Sheriff Jim Cashell said.
Shane Savage, 35, and James Pasek, 24, escaped from jail at about 12:30 p.m. They set up a diversion, barged through an emergency exit and jumped the chain-link fence surrounding the building, Cashell said.
Officers scoured the neighborhood just east of the jail. A tip led authorities to north Bozeman where heavily armed officers staked out an auto shop for more than three hours, to no avail.
''I don't know how long it will take,'' Cashell said. ''I just want those guys back in jail.''
Pasek escaped from a Wyoming jail July 21 while awaiting sentencing in a federal bank robbery and weapons case.
He fled to Bozeman and allegedly stole two cars from a car dealership and robbed Big Sky Western Bank on July 24.
He was recaptured and in August, Pasek was sentenced to 40 years in a federal penitentiary for stealing guns from a Gillette, Wyo., pawn shop and using the weapons in a March 2002, robbery of a Casper, Wyo., bank.
Savage was jailed for allegedly threatening to kill a man and girl, pistol whipping a woman and possessing
cocaine. He also has a case pending for tampering with a witness. His bail had been set at $1 million.
Authorities said they believed the men had split up.
