Four Georgia Fugitives Captured
By Associated Press
Published: 07/02/2003

Three of four men who escaped from a Georgia jail by crawling through plumbing access and scaling two 12-foot-high razor fences were recently captured in Florida. The fourth fugitive surrendered to authorities in Georgia.
The men, who had been jailed on charges ranging from burglary to possession of methamphetamine, broke out June 26 from the Colquitt County, Ga., lockup after hiding in a suspended ceiling and fleeing through a plumbing chase, which is used for repairs and provides outside access, said Colquitt sheriff's Capt. Julius Cox.
The men allegedly stole a total of three vehicles to make their getaway.
Two of the men - Randall C. Hudson, 23, and Joshua Clayton Johnson, 24 - were nabbed June 27 after they were spotted sprinting through motel parking lots in Panama City Beach. The third fugitive, Jason Lee Baird, 18, surrendered at a hotel in the resort.
Early June 28, the fourth man, 25-year-old George Davidson Shaw, returned to Colquitt County and turned himself in, the sheriff's office said. Investigators believe he had separated from the group and headed north, the Panama City News Herald reported.
Hudson and Johnson were charged with grand theft auto and were expected to be charged with being fugitives from justice in Georgia.
