The director of the Anderson County jail has fired one officer and disciplined two others after an inmate was released from jail without being booked. Bob Daly says he fired Sergeant Randy McCullough, who was the highest-ranking officer on duty when the incident happened June 22. Authorities say 33-year-old Donnie Brown was arrested for failure to pay child support. Before he was booked, he was placed in a cell with 15 weekend inmates. Daly says when the weekend inmates left, Brown went with them after an officer failed to check who was leaving. Daly says a corporal on duty was demoted, and the officer watching the weekend inmates has been suspended for three days without pay. Daly refused to release their names. Brown turned himself in at the Anderson County Detention center June 25, Daly said last week. |
