Authorities continued an extensive manhunt Tuesday for two men who escaped from the Tangipahoa Parish, La., jail late Sunday after cutting the bars on their cell with a hacksaw blade. 'We have issued an all-points bulletin to law enforcement agencies throughout Louisiana and surrounding states, but we have had no reported sightings of the escapees, so far,' said Patti Giannoble, a spokeswoman for the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. Terrence Kasses Washington, who was awaiting trial on federal bank robbery charges, and Dan W. Robertson Jr., who was serving a state manslaughter sentence, escaped Sunday about 11 p.m. from the jail in Amite, Giannoble said. The men, who authorities said should be considered armed and dangerous, are believed to have stolen a gold and silver 2000 Jeep Cherokee with Louisiana license plate JAM 849. Washington, 27, whose last known address was in Kirkland, Mo., was awaiting trial next month on armed bank robbery charges, said Special Agent Sheila Thorne, an FBI spokeswoman. He was indicted in connection with 1998 bank robberies in Varnado in Washington Parish and in Loranger in Tangipahoa Parish, Thorne said. Robertson, 41, was being held for the state Department of Corrections and was serving an eight-year sentence. Giannoble said the men sliced through the bars on their cell with a 6-inch hacksaw blade. 'They didn't have a saw, just a small blade, which helps explain how they might have been able to smuggle it into the jail,' she said. Both men would have been wearing orange prison jumpsuits or gray sweat suits when they escaped, Giannoble said. |
