Ohio Deputy Hurt in Jail Scuffle; Inmate Visitations Canceled

A fight in the Ottawa County, Ohio, Detention Facility prompted jailers to lock it down and cancel visitation Tuesday night.
At least one person could be charged in the fight, which involved three inmates, said Ottawa County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Bob Bratton.
Dustin Lucas, 19, was just incarcerated on Saturday, but has been a problem since then, said Bratton. Lucas, in jail on allegations of breaking into a Port Clinton video store, was involved in the fight and could be charged with assault.
Bratton said one corrections officer, Deputy Phil DeLuca, suffered a knee injury while trying to break up the fight. He did not need to go to the hospital, though. None of the inmates was injured.
A report of the incident was forwarded to the Ottawa County Prosecutor's Office for review.
Because of the scuffle, all inmates in the facility were immediately locked down, and visitation for all was canceled.
'Visitation is not something that is under the rules and regulations,' Bratton said this morning. 'That's a privilege, not a right under Ohio law.
'For the safety and welfare of everyone in the jail, when we have outbursts like that we start taking away privileges, which we have every right to do -- we don't tolerate that type of behavior.'
Bratton said, too, the inmates could stay locked down for a while, if the atmosphere doesn't change.
'If it stays tense, they're going to remain locked down,' he added.
