| Inmates Injured During Brawl At Calif. Jail |

About 50 inmates at the George Bailey Detention Facility in Otay Mesa were involved in a fight Monday morning, 10News reported. The disturbance broke out in a housing module at about 5 a.m., according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded and stopped the fight with pepper spray. Seven inmates were transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital and two were airlifted by helicopter. Twenty other inmates were taken to a medical area of the jail for evaluation. Injuries included blunt head trauma, loss of consciousness, neck and back pain, facial and leg cuts, and body bruises. The facility was placed in lockdown and the disturbance is under investigation by the Detentions Investigations Unit, according to the Sheriff's Department. |
