After Escape, La. Prison Will Get High-Tech 'Visitation Stalls'

On the heels of last Wednesday's dramatic escape from Orleans Parish Prison, Sheriff Charles Foti is taking jail security to a new level. 
The announcement came as the woman who aided her husband's jailbreak sits in the same facility in lieu of a $115,000 bond. 
Lance Davis, 31, led police on a high-speed chase in to Jefferson Parish before shooting himself to death at a convenience store. 
Foti said Thursday that in the next two months, the prison will get 16 video visitation stalls. Visitors to the facility will have to speak to inmates through a monitor rather than in person. The sheriff said his jail is one of the first in the state to install the system. 
Foti also said there will be tougher guidelines for handicapped visitors after Lori Davis, 31, wore a body brace to get past security and avoid a metal detector. In her body brace she had bolt cutters and a gun she purchased at a pawnshop in a river parish, Foti said. 
Some people who live near the prison said the jailbreak worried them. 'With this individual being handicapped, to go in to the jail house and have privileges the way she did, it was wrong,' neighbor Margaret Wilson said. 'Everyone should be cleared for security reasons.' 
Foti said the situation is under control. 
'During the day, more than 100 police are driving around this area,' he said. 'And at night, I have patrols run throughout the area.' 
Foti said no deputy will be disciplined. He said everyone acted professionally and did the job they were trained to do.
