An Allen Parish, La., deputy was put on administrative leave for allegedly releasing an inmate who has been accused of beating his wife while free. Deputy DeSoto 'Shorty' Sonnier, who oversaw the parish's inmate road crew, is accused of dropping inmate Jody Mancil off at Mancil's home in Oakdale Friday morning. The Oakdale Police Department later notified the sheriff's office of the alleged assault. Mancil told detectives that he asked Sonnier to take him by to check on his wife because she had been ill. Mancil indicated that he only visited with his wife for a few minutes because Sonnier was waiting. Sonnier acknowledged he violated department policies, sheriff's office chief investigator Chuck Hurst said. |
