A Knox County sheriff's deputy has been charged with smuggling drugs into the jail in Mount Vernon. Thirty-one-year-old Joseph Germani the third was arrested, and fired, on Saturday when authorities intercepted a package containing cocaine and drug paraphernalia at the jail. Sheriff David Barber said his office had received a tip that drugs were going to be brought in. Germani was charged with conveying drugs into a detention facility and is to appear today in Mount Vernon Municipal Court. Germani had been with the sheriff's department since December of 2000. |
