A second Allegheny County Jail officer has been arrested in connection with alleged smuggling of contraband items to inmates, according to WTAE reports. Kenneth Staudt, 25, is accused of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He was arraigned Thursday night and released on his own recognizance. Staudt allegedly sold three ounces of the drug for $500 to an undercover detective at an Eat n Park restaurant in Bellevue. Police said the detective, acting on a tip, was posing as the friend of an inmate. The suspect and the detective had agreed that the detective would deliver two ounces and keep the remaining ounce, police said. Staudt's arrest is the latest development in an ongoing investigation that has produced five other arrests, including jail officer Robert Virgili. Warden Calvin Lightfoot said he has increased security at the jail. |
