Convicted child killer Susan Smith has voluntarily removed her online personal ad seeking pen pals because of heavy media coverage, according to the company that posted the ad. Smith, who is serving a life sentence, has gotten hundreds of responses from the advertisement posted last month on Edgewater-Fla.-based writeaprisoner.com. The company published a letter written by Smith last week on their Web site in place of the ad. In it, she thanked the company for creating the Web site and apologized for inconveniences her ad may have caused. ''Had I known it would have been sensationalized, I would not have placed the ad,'' the letter reads. The Web site still has a photo of a smiling Smith wearing prison garb marked ''S.C. Department of Corrections.'' Smith, 31, became notorious in 1994 for going on national television to tearfully plead for the return of her missing sons. She later admitted to strapping 3-year-old Michael and 14-month-old Alex into their car seats and rolling the family car into Union's John D. Long Lake. |
