A state prison official is in jail on charges of committing three bank robberies.
William Shawn Green, 38, is charged with robbing a SunTrust bank branch in Gloucester twice as well as holding up a Bank of Essex branch, the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office said last week.
Green was arrested just hours after the second holdup at the SunTrust branch Monday morning. Investigators found two people who saw a man fitting the suspect's description and provided a description of his truck and a partial or full license plate number.
Investigators followed the information to Green's home, questioned him and took him into custody. Sheriff Robin Stanaway said Green admitted committing the robberies, and investigators found an undisclosed amount of money from the robbery in Green's truck.
Green works at the Haynesville Correctional Center, a minimum/medium-security facility near Warsaw, said Larry Traylor, spokesman for the state Department of Corrections.
Green is being held without bond in the Gloucester County Jail.
