The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office has captured a dangerous inmate who they released recently by mistake. Carlos Ferrer is charged with raping a 15-year-old Slaton girl. For a week, the sheriff's office had been gathering information about Ferrer's whereabouts. They even had one person who was watching the house where they later found him. On August 6, Ferrer was apprehended without incident, exactly one week after a clerical error allowed him to leave the Lubbock County Jail by mistake. At this point, the sheriff's office doesn't know when Ferrer's new court date will be nor do they know if they will be pressing any additional charges. When they found Ferrer, they said he was alone and came willingly. It is uncertain whether the house where he was found was his own residence. But the sheriff's department thinks Ferrer stayed in Lubbock this entire past week. As a precaution, they had alerted law enforcement in Minnesota and Oklahoma, where Ferrer is known to have family. Captain Kelly Rowe says he's pleased with how the arrest went. 'The actions of our law enforcement division, warrants division, have been outstanding and I think there's nothing they could have done any differently,' he says. 'This has been some really excellent police work.' Ferrer's guilt or innocence will be decided at his next trial. Until that trial, he will be kept at the Lubbock County Jail. |
