Former Harrison County Inmates Suing Deputy
By Associated Press
Published: 08/18/2003

Three former inmates of the Harrison County (Mississippi) jail are suing a sheriff's deputy. They claim the deputy sexually assaulted them and threatened to harm them if they reported the alleged incident.
The lawsuit, which represents one side of a case, was filed July 25th in U.S. District Court in Biloxi. Also named in the suit are Sheriff George Payne Jr. and warden Maj. Diana Riley.
The plaintiffs, one man from Ellisville and two from Pass Christian, allege that the deputy made sexual suggestions, committed sexual battery by sodomy and other related assaults while the men were in the medical area of the jail.
Payne denied the allegations and called it a frivolous jailhouse lawsuit. Each plaintiff asks for 500 thousand dollars in damages.
