Australian Prison Officers Forecast Industrial Action Over Work Conditions
By ABC Online (Australia)
Published: 08/18/2003

There could be industrial action at Queensland's prisons after meetings of prison officers around the state August 4.
Queensland Public Service Sector Union organiser Bob Elphinstone says officers feel inadequate headway is being made with their current enterprise bargaining agreement.
Perimeter security is a main issue and Mr. Elphinstone says members have not received an answer from management about the re-deployment of armoured vehicles for perimeter patrols.
'There is industrial action likely if we can't get some sort of solution,' he said.
'Certainly we'll consider all industrial options, obviously we'll be making sure at looking, at ensuring the community is safe, that's the highest priority of our members but we'll be trying to put pressure on the Government to resolve these issues and resolve them quickly.'
