A federal jury on Thursday convicted two Illinois Corrections Department parole agents and a Cook County sheriff's deputy of stealing cash and phony cocaine from an undercover FBI car made to appear to be that of a drug dealer.
The parole agents, Anthony Brown, 33, of Richton Park and Jesse Kuykendoll, 42, of Chicago, were convicted of stealing a sham kilogram of cocaine and $20,000 from the trunk last June 27. The sheriff's deputy, Jerome Coleman, 36, of Chicago was convicted of stealing a sham kilogram of cocaine and $12,000.
The verdict brings to seven the number of former or current law enforcement officers convicted in the FBI undercover probe code-named Operation Blue Steal, said prosecutors Matthew Schneider and Barry Miller.
A former Cook County Forest Preserve police officer worked undercover for the FBI setting up officers, prosecutors said.
