Inmates use metal to cut window bar at prison

Three inmates who tried to break out of the South Dakota State Penitentiary used a small piece of metal to saw a bar on a window in the Jameson Annex, the prison's maximum security unit, prison officials said Tuesday.
Inmates Brian DeSchepper, David Lee and Anthony Garcia have been placed in solitary confinement.
Warden Doug Weber said the three sawed off the bar and then started beating against the shatterproof glass with their arms.
''They managed to break a couple layers on the cell front side but could not and would not be able to break through the other materials that are utilized in that window,'' said Weber.
Officers discovered the escape attempt on Monday when Lee was found in the wrong cell.
Weber said the three are among the prison's most dangerous. All three are serving life sentences.
