Three inmates pleaded innocent last week to breaking into a sheriff's office evidence locker and stealing guns and drugs. Jeffrey Lynn Richardson, 41, of Bella Vista, Brandon Joseph Longo, 30, of Rogers and Michael Raymond Schneipp, 29, of Bentonville face five charges -- theft of property, breaking or entering, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance -- methamphetamine, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver -- marijuana. Benton County, Ark. Circuit Judge Tom Keith appointed public defenders to represent Longo and Schneipp. Richardson did not appear before Keith last week, but his plea was entered by attorney Bruce Bennett. Omnibus hearings were set for March 1 and jury trials for May 11. Breaking or entering and tampering with physical evidence charges are Class D felonies, punishable by zero to six years in prison, and the remaining charges are Class C felonies, punishable by three to 10 years in prison. All five charges stem from a September incident in which investigators and jail staff found the drugs and, later, five pistols, in the Benton County Jail's auto repair shop. The items were discovered missing from the evidence locker, which is in a different part of the jail compound. Sheriff Keith Ferguson has said the inmates were able to take out sheet-metal screws and peel back the sheet-metal wall on the evidence building. |
