A federal prison officer accused of agreeing to take marijuana into the facility for $3,000 in cash has been charged with bribery, prosecutors said. Jamaal Rashad Landry, 20, of Beaumont, Texas could face up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine if convicted. He was arrested last Tuesday and remained jailed pending preliminary and detention hearings. Court documents show Landry, who worked at a medium-security facility in Beaumont, met with an undercover officer posing as the brother of an inmate. He allegedly agreed to take four pounds of marijuana into the prison in return for the money, federal prosecutors said in a statement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dave Henderson is prosecuting the case. The Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Justice Office of Inspector General, the Jefferson County Narcotics Task Force, and the Chambers County Narcotics Task Force assisted in the arrest and investigation. |
