An investigation is underway into the Christmas Day death of a Travis County, Texas, jail inmate. Shannon Sharp, 32, was arrested in Pflugerville Christmas Eve for driving while intoxicated. He did take a breathalyzer test which showed his alcohol blood level was well below that which would indicate he was drunk. Jail officers found him dead in his cell Christmas morning. An arrest warrant shows officers said Sharp was sleepy and staggered when he walked. Jan Ozias, with the Texas Diabetes Council, says those symptoms sound like someone with diabetes 'especially in terms of standing and balance.' Sharp's mother in Mesquite, Texas, says she may file a lawsuit over her son's death. But she said she will wait for the Travis County Medical Examiner's toxicology report next week. |
