On January 25, all Wyoming inmates were returned to Wyoming from Wallens Ridge State Prison in Virginia. As Wyoming Department of Corrections Director Judith Uphoff stated when they were moved to Virginia in May 2001, this was a temporary placement to insure the smooth transition of staff and inmates into the new Wyoming State Penitentiary South Facility in Rawlins. The number of inmates originally moved to Virginia totaled 72. Today the total transferred to the Wyoming State Penitentiary South Facility numbered 64 inmates. This included all Wyoming inmates remaining at Wallens Ridge. In preparation for the move back to Wyoming, a multi-disciplinary team from WDOC spent three days at Wallens Ridge working with the inmates' case workers and interviewing each inmate to gather his institutional history as well as information that would assist each inmate in his transition back into the WSP with emphasis on housing, education and programming needs. |
