Nova Southeastern University law students will join the efforts of 'The Florida Innocence Project,'' in helping to exonerate its 100th person. Headquartered at the Law Center of NSU in Fort Lauderdale, the Innocence Project was founded by celebrated attorneys Barry Sheck and Peter Neufeld to assist inmates in obtaining DNA tests to identify those who have been wrongly convicted of crimes. There are currently 236 cases in various stages of review and investigation in over thirty Innocence Projects operating across the country as part of an 'Innocence Network.'' NSU law students participating in the Post-Conviction Litigation Workshop will become part of the Innocence Project, headed up by Professor Catherine Arcabascio, along with adjunct professor Craig Trocino. 'The students are involved in all facets of these cases resulting in an unprecedented learning experience,'' Arcabascio said. 'The students need the learning experience, and the inmates need the help. It is a classic win-win situation.'' The Florida Innocence Project will continue to review and investigate future cases, and will vigorously pursue the cause of justice for those wrongly convicted and innocently imprisoned. |
