New Mexico Corrections Secretary to Run For Attorney General
By Associated Press
Published: 02/13/2002

Corrections Secretary Rob Perry announced last week he would run for attorney general of New Mexico.
Perry, who will seek the Republican nomination in the June primary, has already criticized his opponent for taking out-of-state gambling and other contributions, for allegedly keeping sloppy campaign finance records, and for not prosecuting government ethics violations.
'I'm the underdog here,' said Perry, 41, a lawyer who has headed the state Department of Corrections under Republican Gov. Gary Johnson since 1997. 'That's a machine that I'm taking on.'
Perry said he would leave the department soon to campaign full-time. He is investigating the possibility of taking a leave of absence, he said.
Perry said if he were elected, he would set up a unit to prosecute government ethics violations. Asked to cite an example of such violations, he replied: 'Manny Aragon would be in jail right now. Let me just be real straight.'
He said Aragon was wrong to work for the Florida-based Wackenhut Corrections
Corp. while he was Senate president pro tempore and sitting on the Finance Committee.

Hiring an attorney can present confusing situations for someone. It’s hard to tell whether you’ll get the best service possible in your situation. You likely have a lot of questions. Will your lawyer hand off your matter to someone else? Will your lawyer return your phone calls? It’s hard to know without someone you can trust. If you been rollover accident in Waco you need a lawyer. People in Central Texas have trusted Dunnam & Dunnam for almost 100 years for their most pressing legal concerns. They understand the value of a good advocate. They’re a family helping Waco families since 1925.
