| Florida Deputies, Prisoners Injured In Van Crash |

Two St. Johns County, Fla., deputies and several inmates were injured recently when a prison van crashed into a logging truck crashed on February 21. The van spun around and hit a motor home, causing both vehicles to flip. The four most seriously injured were flown by air ambulance to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center. These include the driver, Deputy Sommer Adams, 24; murder convict Fred Manning, 32; Darin Troy Ashcraft, 37, serving time for theft, drugs and firearms charges; and Harold Baer Garner, 36, serving time for cocaine possession convicts were flown to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center. Adams and Manning were treated and released from the hospital. Ashcraft and Garner were in stable condition as of February 22. The other deputy in the van, Gary Strickland, 40, and prisoner Carlton Lawrance Randolf, 31, were taken to Doctor's Memorial Hospital in Perry, where they were treated and released. The deputies were transporting all four prisoners back to St. Augustine for court appearances. |
