Man Allegedly Molests Girl in Jail

A man already suspected in three sexual assaults faces charges of molesting a 16-year-old girl who deputies accidentally locked in his jail cell.
Arapahoe County Undersheriff Grayson Robinson called it an 'unfortunate error.'
Gerald DeWayne Lewis, 34, was inside a holding cell at Arapahoe County Jail last week when the girl was taken there to await a court appearance. The deputies escorting her thought the cell was empty and didn't realize Lewis had crawled under a bed inside, Robinson said Tuesday.
Lewis allegedly fondled the girl over her clothing, Robinson said.
The girl was in the cell for about 40 minutes before being taken to court, where she told her attorney what happened, Robinson said. Lewis faces a third-degree sexual assault charge.
Lewis has already been charged with sexual assault involving a girl at Denver church in January, and he is suspected in two other cases at a high school and a middle school. The district attorney's office is reviewing the school cases, said Rudy Herrera, Aurora police spokesman.
An internal investigation is also underway into the two deputies who were staffing the holding cell, and juveniles will no longer be held there, Robinson said. He said it's not unusual for holding-cell inmates to duck under the beds to escape the noise and lights.

Hiring an attorney can present confusing situations for someone. It’s hard to tell whether you’ll get the best service possible in your situation. You likely have a lot of questions. Will your lawyer hand off your matter to someone else? Will your lawyer return your phone calls? It’s hard to know without someone you can trust. If you been hurt in a t bone car crash you need a lawyer. People in Central Texas have trusted Dunnam & Dunnam for almost 100 years for their most pressing legal concerns. They understand the value of a good advocate. They’re a family helping Waco families since 1925.
