State jails in Travis County are in line to get protective equipment for officers. The state prisons received new, high tech bulletproof vests about six months ago. The new Thrust Vests are not padded as much as the older versions, but they're more multi-purpose. Thrust Vests are both bullet proof and stab proof and allow for keeping handcuffs and pepper spray close at hand. Officers may get the new vests some time this year. |
