| Concern Grows Over Sacramento Jail Deaths |

Public defender Tommy Clinkenbeard is leading the charge of concern. 'I have major concerns, and I think something is wrong,' Clinkenbeard said. Clinkenbeard was Nikolay Soltys' former attorney. Soltys was the man accused of killing his pregnant wife, son and four other family members in August 2001. Soltys, 27, was found dead in his cell at the main jail on Feb. 13. Authorities said he hanged himself. Clinkenbeard is calling for an independent investigation into Soltys' suicide. Jail officials said they have responded to the inmates' problems in a timely manner. Other county facilities have not had suicide in three years. To date, jail officials have made minor changes to try and stem the rise of suicides. One of the things jail officials have done is plug a drain hole where inmates could secure a ligature. |
