Autopsy On N.H. Jail Inmate Yields Little New Information

An autopsy performed on a man who died at the Cheshire County Jail on April 21 has led to more questions than answers.
'It's a huge investigation,' Assistant County Attorney William Cleary said recently. 'The bottom line is ... they don't know why he died.'
On April 22, N.H. State Police Lt. James F. Kelly said an autopsy performed by the chief medical examiner's office in Concord showed no signs of what caused the death of 47-year-old Kevin R. Barker of Swanzey.
Kelly said toxicology tests would be performed to determine if there were any drugs or other poisons in Barker's system, but the results may not be available for up to four months.
According to Keene District Court documents, Barker was being held at the jail on a charge of shoplifting. He was ordered held for lack of $250 bail and was ordered not to go into Gomarlo's Store in Swanzey.
Barker was found unresponsive in his cell at about 7:45 a.m. Sunday. When efforts to revive him with cardiopulmonary resuscitation failed, he was taken to
Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, where he was pronounced dead.
Barker was held in an observation cell, as jail's policy is to keep all new prisoners under watch for 24 hours. Because Barker didn't appear suicidal or mentally ill, he was placed on routine watch, meaning officers checked him at least once every half-hour.
Officials said Barker appeared very drunk when he arrived at the jail and slept through the night.
Jail officials gave state police a videotape from a surveillance camera, but Kelly said police still aren't sure if Barker is on it.

Hiring an attorney can present confusing situations for someone. It’s hard to tell whether you’ll get the best service possible in your situation. You likely have a lot of questions. Will your lawyer hand off your matter to someone else? Will your lawyer return your phone calls? It’s hard to know without someone you can trust. If you been hurt in an Uber accident in Waco you need a lawyer. People in Central Texas have trusted Dunnam & Dunnam for almost 100 years for their most pressing legal concerns. They understand the value of a good advocate. They’re a family helping Waco families since 1925.
