| Officer Shoots, Kills Inmate in Standoff |

An inmate at the center of a standoff at the Sierra County jail in Truth or Consequences, N.M. was shot and killed last night by a State Police officer. The standoff started when the inmate took a female officer hostage. The Sierra County Sheriff's Department said the shooting brought the standoff to an end. The officer is hospitalized with a neck wound, but she will recover. The Sierra County jail is locked down as a result of the incident. State Police spent Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning investigating how the inmate was able to take the guard hostage. |
