Vermont State Police are investigating the death of a man who was jailed after being accused of committing a crime while on furlough. Northeast Regional Correctional Facility Acting Superintendent Daniel Florentine identified the inmate as Robert L. Anair, 53, formerly of Concord. A news release said it appeared Anair died of natural causes. According to Florentine, Anair collapsed in the prison's gym. Corrections Department staff performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation while an ambulance was on its way. Anair was rushed to Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Anair had been in the news recently, because he'd been charged with escaping for the third time while on furlough. |
