The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services' Information Technology and Communications Division now offers a full list of registered sex offenders on its Internet site, www.dpscs.state.md.us. This effort supports the Department's safety initiatives by providing information services to the public via the Internet. The site contains over 2,000 names, last reported addresses, photographs, category of registrant and convicted crime(s), plus other information. It complements an existing service that provides paper copies containing the same information to requestors. A similar service is also offered by designated law enforcement agencies located in every county and Baltimore County (they are listed on the Internet site). The breakdown of the list is as follows: Child sex offenders (79% of list) Sexually violent offenders (16%) Offenders (5%) Sexually violent predators (0%) Offenders are registered for a minimum of 10 years while repeat offenders committing articulated crimes are registered for life. The list will be updated on a weekly basis and is searchable via search engine by name, zip code and category order.
