N.J. Jail Staff Save Inmate's Life

Morris County Jail staffers used a defibrillator to save the life of an inmate who collapsed inside his cell.
Robert McConley, 30, was on the top bunk when he apparently suffered a heart attack and fell to the floor around 3:45 p.m. on May 21. Corrections Officer Michael Lundel, who was nearby, heard McConley fall and responded to the cell with fellow officers John Davidek, Leon Pollison and John Waldron.
Waldron got the defibrillator while the other officers tended to McConley. They were soon able to restart McConley's heart and he was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital, where he was in fair condition.
Jail officials said McConley had been held at the jail for six days on motor vehicle charges filed by Roxbury authorities.
