The state Department of Correction is investigating the apparent suicide of a 35-year-old inmate at the MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution.
Scott Walsh was found Thursday afternoon in his single cell with a bed sheet tied to his bunk and around his neck, correction spokesman Brian Garnett said Friday.
Officers cut him free with safety scissors and performed first aid, including CPR, Garnett said. Walsh, of South Boston, Mass., was rushed to Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford, where he was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m.
Walsh had been held in Connecticut since February on $50,000 bond to resolve pending first-degree larceny charges.
This is the fourth suicide within the Connecticut Department of Correction in 2002, Garnett said.
