German police have launched a manhunt for a convicted murderer who escaped from prison in a cardboard box. The 27-year-old Yugoslav outwitted officers by concealing himself in a box he had been given to assemble at the Waldeck prison in eastern Germany. 'He had been working in the prison's box folding department and it appears he got into a box,' said Christian Pegel, spokesman for the justice ministry in the eastern state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. A truck driver unwittingly transported the box out of jail and the prisoner jumped off the vehicle unseen. |
