A correctional officer is in fair condition after being stabbed five times by an inmate at the Pendleton Correctional Facility.
Tanner Campbell, 25, was stabbed about 4 p.m. Monday as inmates were being released for their evening meal, said Pam Pattison, spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections.
Campbell sustained four superficial stab wounds and a fifth more serious stab wound to his chest. He was taken to St. John's Medical Center in Anderson and was listed in critical condition.
The correctional officer identified Justin Rodgers, 34, as his attacker and Rodgers was in custody, prison officials said.
Rodgers is serving concurrent sentences out of Ripley County. He was sentenced on Sept. 1, 1993, to 20 years for felony criminal deviate conduct and 20 years for felony arson. His projected release date is Oct. 18, 2007.
The facility is currently in lockdown. Weapons thought to have been used during the assault have been recovered.
Internal affairs staff at the facility and the Indiana State Police are currently investigating the incident.
