The director of the Connecticut Juvenile Training School, the states correctional facility for boys, announced her resignation on July 16. Lesley D. Mara, 40, will stay on the job until Sept. 13, the Department of Children and Families said. Gary Kleeblatt, a department spokesman, refused to comment on the reason behind Mara's departure. DCF opened the $57 million Juvenile Training School in Middletown last August to replace the Long Lane School, an aging facility dubbed unsafe for convicted youths. An independent consultant gave the training school an ''unsatisfactory'' rating in May, saying it lacks programs and internal quality controls. Some staff members at the training school recently took a vote of no-confidence Mara and called for her to be replaced. State Child Advocate Jeanne Milstein placed a staff member at the school to monitor daily activities. |
