| State Investigates Kissing at Colorado Youth Center |

State officials are investigating how a 19-year-old male inmate was able to kiss and fondle two teenage girls at the Marvin Foote Youth Center. Tony Elam told News4 that he had 'sexual contact' with both girls in a bathroom at the facility. 'I was just kissing one of them and touching her, and the other one is the one I got in trouble for - it went further,' he said. 'I took a risk, and I take responsibility, but I still feel if I was supervised better it probably would not have happened.' Liz McDonough, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Human Services, said the state is investigating the incident, which happened July 10. The juvenile detention center holds male and female inmates, but is supposed to keep them separated. 'We are in the midst of a review to try and determine what the lapse was, where it occurred and what we can do to shore it up,' she said. 'It's obviously something we don't want to see happen.' |
